Lifeguard Training Programs

  • Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross

    • Bronze Cross Aug 08 to Aug 10 09:00 AM-05:00 PM Available
      Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion, Standard First Aid with CPR C, 14 years of age and ability to swim 400 m in 11 minutes using a combination of the following swim strokes – front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke or sidestroke.

      Bronze Cross is the Lifesaving Society's Assistant Lifeguard Award. Bronze Cross expands lifesaving skills with a focus on teamwork, and begins the transition from lifesaver to lifeguard. Principles and techniques for active supervision of aquatic facilities are introduced and put into practice n the role of Assistant Lifeguard.

  • Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion

      Prerequisites: Standard First Aid/CPR C, minimum of 13 years of age, ability to complete a timed swim of 400 m using a combination of the following swim strokes – front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke or sidestroke. Recommended completion of Red Cross Swim Kids Level 10 or participation in Junior Lifeguard Club.

      Pricing: $175.00

      Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Rescuers learn tows, carries, and defense and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of conscious and unconscious victims.

      Candidates are required to attend 100% of the course and will be expected to demonstrate swim skills, water rescues and basic first aid. Candidates will be active and wet in the water each day – it is recommended that they bring goggles, towels, lots of snacks and a lunch for each day.

  • Lifesaving Swim Inst.

    • Lifesaving Swim Instructor Course Jul 11 to Jul 15 09:00 AM-05:30 PM Available
      Swim Instructor

      Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Swim for Life® and Canadian Swim Patrol programs. The Swim Instructor course prepares instructors to apply level 1 leadership competencies and strategies designed to teach swimming and lifesaving.

      Prerequisite(s): 16 years old and Bronze Cross or higher

      Certification Currency: 2 years from the date of certification

      Apprenticeship: In course

      Recertification: Attend a Swim and Lifesaving Instructor recertification course. Complete a Leadership Development Plan

  • National Lifeguard (Pool Option)

    • National Lifeguard - Pool Aug 22 to Aug 26 09:00 AM-05:00 PM Available
      National Lifeguard - The National Lifeguard certification is Canada's professional lifeguard standard. National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard's role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, 50 m sprint challenge, 50 m rescue drill and 400 m endurance challenge.

      Prerequisites: minimum 16 years of age, Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid.
