Suncor Community Leisure Centre

As a key facility at MacDonald Island Park, the Suncor Community Leisure Centre (SCLC) welcomes tens of thousands of guests per year. The SCLC is the region’s hub for daily fun and has become one of the most popular sport, leisure, fitness and recreational attractions in Fort McMurray. All ages can enjoy the different amenities the facility has to offer. Canadian Natural Arena 1

SCLC – Level One 

The Island is home to not one, but two NHL sized arenas, making it the only multi-arena venue within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Both arenas have seen events such as Midget Hockey Provincials, the Grand Slam of Curling, Canadian Ringette Championships and much more.

Canadian Natural Arena 2

SCLC – Level One 

This NHL size arena is in a prime location for visibility and access. Daily you can find user groups accessing the ice surface for hockey games and practice, recreational skating, ringette and more. This space is set to be home of the 2022 Artic Winter Games Figure Skating Competition.

CNOOC Field Houses

SCLC – Level One

The CNOOC Field Houses is a multi-use space for various daily activities. The size of standard an arena with the functionality of an in-door hard surface athletic space, this field house can be used to accommodate activities like indoor soccer, recreational basketball, roller derby and much more! From hosting tradeshow style events to acting as the location for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games’ Judo competition, the CNOOC Field Houses is home to a lot of fun!

Curling Rink

SCLC – Level One 

The Curling Rink located in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre is an eight-sheet curling facility that is home to the Oilsands Curling Club and other community curling initiatives in the region. It has been hosted events the Canadian Junior Curling Championships and 2018 Alberta Winter Games Curling Competition. This seasonal space can be enjoyed in the winter for recreational use or accessed in the summer for special events.

Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery

SCLC – Level Two

The Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery highlights the works of local artists and celebrates the arts in a high traffic area. The space is designed to showcase art to the general public in an easy to access environment.

Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre

SCLC – Level Two

The Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre at MacDonald Island Park has everything you need to achieve your fitness goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle. This state-of-the-art facility is large and fully outfitted with a wide variety or cardio equipment, free weights, weight training machines and more.

Leisure Ice

SCLC – Level One 

Located conveniently by CNRL Arena 1, the leisure ice is a great place to skate! Stylized each season with bright colours and unique designs within the ice, this family friendly space is great for all ages and all skill levels.

Pepsi Climbing Wall

SCLC – Level One 

The Pepsi Climbing Wall is professionally textured to look and feel like a real rock face and features 14 anchor routes, 3 auto belay routes and plenty of bouldering opportunities. It is open daily and is staffed with trained professionals. The Pepsi Climbing Wall is used for programming, drop-in climbing, and is also available for private amenity rental.

Running Track

SCLC – Level Two

Located on the third floor of the SCLC, the running track is a great place to get in you laps and train with additional fitness equipment. No matter your pace, guests can enjoy overlooking the fieldhouses below as they elevate their daily step count.

Sentinel Storage Indoor Playground

SCLC – Level One 

Escape the cold or beat the heat at the Sentinel Storage Indoor Playground located in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre. Fully equipped with for kids to have fun, jump, play, climb and fun. All children in this space must be 7 years of age and under.

Sentinel Storage Kids Clubhouse

SCLC – Level One 

Our Sentinel Storage Kids Clubhouse location provides an environment that encourages children to learn and explore through play in an interactive space. Children from 2 months of age and up to and including 10 years of age are permitted to utilize the child mind services and guardians must stay on the premises while their child is in the care of Sentinel Storage Kids Clubhouse unless otherwise indicated.

Squash & Racquetball Courts

SCLC – Level One 

Offering two squash and one dual squash/racquetball court, this amenity is popular for both drop in play and organized programing. The Squash and Racquetball Courts have previously acted as the host location of Alberta Winter Games – Squash Competition.

Terry Conroy Mini Ice

SCLC – Level One 

This small ice surface is big fun. The Terry Conroy Mini Ice at MacDonald Island Park offers less surface space for ice play in a more private setting. This amenity is popular for birthday parties and practicing skating skills.

The Studio

Located on the first floor of Suncor Community Leisure Centre, across from the Curling Rink, The Studio offers group fitness classes for all levels of experience. From spin to yoga and everything in between, our amazing Group Fitness Instructors will help you work your body and mind in an inspiring and welcoming atmosphere.

Visual Arts Studio

The Visual Arts Studio provides a space for artists of all ages and abilities to tap into their creativity and enjoy new creative experiences.

Syncrude Aquatic Centre

As one of the most popular leisure, fitness, and recreational attractions in Fort McMurray, the Syncrude Aquatic Centre is home to a 54m Olympic swimming pool, a warm water leisure pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpools, family water park, the Mix 103.7 spray park, water slides, a lazy river, and more. This a one-of-a-kind amenity has something for everyone. More than recreation, the Syncrude Aquatic Centre can be found hosting the region’s swim meets and competitions.
