Suncor Community Leisure Centre

Suncor Community Leisure Centre, located at MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray, Alberta, is known as one of the largest recreation centres in Canada.  Suncor Community Leisure Centre is home to the following amenities: Wood Buffalo Regional Library, CNOOC field houses, Syncrude Aquatic Centre, two Canadian Natural Arenas, Oilsands Curling Club, Terry Conroy Mini Ice, Leisure Ice Pond, Child Minding, Indoor Playground, Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre and much more.

  • Q: What is your cancellation policy?
    • A: Sport and Recreation Programs and Camps Cancellation Policy

      This is a binding legal agreement to pay all current and future fees to the RRC. All programs and camps offered by the RRC are non-transferrable and cannot be deferred. Any payments returned NSF, account closed or credit card rejected will be subject to a $25 administration fee.

      There are no other refunds, transfers or deferrals for all fees paid and payable except under the circumstances listed below.

      Cancellation by RRC: Programs or camps can be cancelled or combined due to low registration 48 hours prior to the course start date, unforeseen safety considerations, facility and/or equipment problems. Full refunds are provided when programs and camps are cancelled by the RRC. The member can choose to leave the funds on account or request a refund by cheque.

      Cancellation by Member: Refunds are only available when the member cancels due to

      1) Any Reason: Refunds can be requested 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program or camp for any reason
      2) Medical Reason: Refunds owing to medical reasons can be requested at any time prior to the start of the program or camp. A medical certificate from qualified medical practitioner is required.

      Cancellation must be requested and completed through Guest Services.

      All approved refunds, when cancelled by the member will be placed on the member account for future use at zero charge. Alternately a cheque can be requested, which is subject to a 10% cancellation fee - subject to a minimum fee of $25.

      Note: Aquatic Specific Policies

      1) Lessons due to isolated circumstances, environmental or any other reasons out of RRC control will not be credited, refunded or made up.
      2) Lessons cancelled within 48 hours or less of the class date, due to RRC related occurrences, will be credited to the account in the amount of the single class value.  The RRC will do their best to inform you if this occurs, as soon as possible.

      If 14 days or less before the start of the program, requests must be made directly to the Aquatic Programming Supervisor.

Shell Place

Shell Place, located at MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray, Alberta, is proud to deliver excellence in sport, concert and event experiences. Shell Place and MacDonald Island Park are operated by the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC). These Frequently Asked Questions apply to: SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place and the Baseball Stadium at Shell Place.

  • Q: Are the stadiums at Shell Place accessible for those with mobility issues?
    • A: Shell Place supports barrier-free access for guests with mobility concerns. All entrances are accessible; however the most convenient entrance for guests with mobility challenges are the designated drop off and pick up areas. Accessible parking is available.
    • The stadiums at Shell Place have barrier-free seating available for mobility challenged guests. This seating is limited. To purchase accessible seating please contact the Shell Place Box Office at 780-793-6969.
    • Shell Place does not rent or supply wheelchairs for patrons.
  • Q: How do I gain access to the stadiums?
    • A: Certain areas may be accessible only with a designated ticket or credential. Please follow the directions of RRC staff and event volunteers for access to your designated location.

  • Q: What is the alcohol policy at Shell Place?
    • A: Outside beverages are not permitted in Shell Place. Any guest attempting to bring alcohol into Shell Place will be denied entry. Any guest removed from an event for any violation of Shell Place policy will not be issued a refund.
    • Guests must be prepared to provide government issued photo ID when requested. Drinks will be limited to two beverages per guest per transaction. Alcohol will not be served to any guest who appears intoxicated.
    • SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place is a bottle and can-free facility. All canned beverages are served in plastic cups and plastic bottles are served without lids.
    • All guests may be asked to provide a form of government issued photo identification such as a valid Driver's License or passport which indicates the guest is at least 18 years of age. 
  • Q: Are animals allowed in the stadiums?
    • A: Animals or pets are not permitted at Shell Place with the exception of service animals. A service animal is defined by the Government of Alberta as a "dog who is specially trained to assist individuals with disabilities with everyday activities..."
  • Q: Where are the ATM's located?
    • A: ATMs are located on the main concourse of Shell Place. Additional ATMs can be found at Guest Services (East Entrance) in Shell Place and on the main concourse in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
  • Q: Where are the baby changing stations located?
    • A: Baby changing tables can be located in the washrooms located on the main concourse of SMS Equipment Stadium.
  • Q: Do you inspect bags?
    • A: The safety of our guests is our primary consideration. All bags are subject to inspection prior to admission to the stadium. Refusal to permit search will result in denial of admission.
  • Q: Are banners and flags allowed in the stadiums?
    • A: Banners and flags are permitted as long as they fall within the following guidelines:
      • Signs cannot be distasteful in nature or content
      • Signs cannot obstruct the view of other guests
      • Signs cannot obstruct any permanent signage and cannot be hung or attached to any surfaces
      • Signs cannot be attached to sticks or poles
      • Signs may not be corporate or advertise any logo or product
  • Q: Where can I park my bicycle?
    • A: Bicycle parking is available in front of Shell Place and the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.
  • Q: Can I use binoculars?
    • A: Guests are permitted to use self-supplied binoculars unless otherwise specified. Shell Place does not rent binoculars.
  • Q: Can I bring food or beverages with me into the stadiums?
    • A: No outside food or beverage containers are permitted inside Shell Place.
  • Q: Where is the Shell Place Box Office?
    • A: For all events at Shell Place or MacDonald Island Park, please purchase your tickets at the Shell Place Box Office located at the West Entrance of Shell Place, online at www.RRCWB.ca/events or by telephone at 780- 793-6969.
    • Day-of-event Box Office ticket sales will open no later than 2 hours prior to the event start time. Box Office ticket sales will close for concerts when the headline performer has taken the stage; at half-time for football games and the end of the 5th inning for baseball games; and one hour into the event for all other events and performances.
    • Prepaid tickets purchased over the telephone or internet can be picked up at Shell Place Box Office Will Call Window. Photo identification as well as the order I.D is required for pick up. If another individual is picking up the tickets please send an authorization email to [email protected] with your name, the individual picking up the tickets, and the order I.D.
    • The Shell Place Box Office has a no refund or exchange policy on tickets for all events. In rare circumstances, an event may be postponed or cancelled. For information on postponed or cancelled events, refer to the point of purchase location, radio outlets and social media. For cancelled events, ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase only. Ticket scalpers are not recognized ticket agents. If you purchase tickets from a scalper, intentionally or not, you risk being denied entry. To avoid problems with counterfeit, stolen, void, or other invalid tickets, Shell Place strongly urges all patrons purchase their tickets from the Shell Place Box Office and to not utilize ticket brokers or scalpers.
    • Shell Place employs scanning technology for admittance to events. Only valid tickets will scan to authorize entry into the stadium for the event. Lost or stolen tickets may be deactivated and will not be valid for entry into the stadium. Anyone who purchases tickets from a scalper or ticket broker does so at his or her own risk. The resale of event tickets on MacDonald Island Park property is prohibited.
  • Q: What do I do if my seat is broken?
    • A: If you seat is broken, please contact the nearest usher, RRC staff member, security or guest services/box office location for assistance.
  • Q: Are cameras allowed in the stadiums?
    • A: Restrictions for the use of cameras and video cameras vary by event, Video cameras, audio recording devices and cameras with detachable lenses and/or lenses exceeding 3 inches are not permitted.
  • Q: Do you have a code of conduct?
    • A: Shell Place is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests. Guests are encouraged to act in a respectful and responsible manner in order to ensure a positive experience. Any guest acting in an offensive or abusive manner will be removed from the stadium. Inappropriate behavior includes, but is not limited to:
      • The use of foul or abusive language
      • Drunk and disorderly conduct
      • Standing on chairs
      • Disruption of event, including throwing objects, using noisemakers and trespassing onto restricted areas
      • Fighting or making threatening or challenging remarks
      • Smoking
      • Illegal drugs
  • Q: Where are the concessions?
    • A: Concessions are located on the main concourse of stadium. Additional concessions may be added during certain events. Please refer to event-specific maps and signage to determine the location of any additional concessions.
  • Q: Are there defibrillators available?
    • A: Emergency use defibrillators are located in: Shell Place Guest Services, SMS Equipment Stadium Locker Room, and Baseball Stadium Locker Room.
  • Q: Is there a dress code?
    • A: Shell Place reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone wearing clothing with obscene or profane Messaging. Guests wearing known gang clothing and/or colours will not be permitted entrance and these guests will be asked to leave the premises.
  • Q: Are drones allowed in the stadiums?
    • A: To protect the safety and privacy of our guests, drones are not allowed at Shell Place events unless permission is obtained from the RRC in advance of the event. All unpermitted drones will be reported to local authorities.
  • Q: Where are the elevators located?
    • A: Public access elevators are located at the East and West Entrances of Shell Place, and in the Baseball Stadium. Please note these elevators may have restricted access for suite ticket holders during events.
  • Q: Where are the emergency exits?
    • A: Emergency exits are located throughout Shell Place and are clearly marked. Staff and security are trained in evacuation procedures and will assist you in exiting safely.
  • Q: What if someone needs to get in touch with me due to an emergency?
    • A: In case of emergency, someone may leave a message for you with our guest services or box office attendant. Ensure any person who may need to reach you knows your section, row and seat numbers so RRC staff can locate you.
  • Q: Where are the stadium entrances located?
    • A: SMS Equipment Stadium Suite Entrances are located through the East Entrance of Shell Place. All other seating is accessible through SMS Equipment Stadium Gate 1 and Gate 2.
    • Baseball Stadium Suites and all other baseball stadium seating is accessible through Gate 3.
  • Q: What should I do if I or someone else requires First Aid?
    • A: In case of injury or emergency, please advise the closest RRC staff, usher or security. First Aid providers are on site during events and available to assist.

    • A: Please see Concessions
  • Q: When do the gates open for shows, concerts and events?
    • A: Gate opening times vary according to the nature of the event and preference of the promoter/artist. Gate opening times will be posted at www.rrcwb.ca/events and via social media:

  • Q: Who do I talk to if I have a concern or complaint?
    • A: Any guests concerns or suggestions during an event should be directed to our Guest Service or Box locations at Shell Place, or brought to the attention of the nearest RRC Staff member. Shell Place will use all reasonable efforts to resolve concerns appropriately. If a guest wishes to have a concern investigated, contact Guest Services at 780-791-0070 or Box Office at 780-793-6969.
  • Q: What happens if the weather is bad?
    • A: Shell Place rarely postpones or cancels events due to inclement weather. Please be advised that tickets for all events are sold on a non-refundable and non-exchangeable basis. Should a decision be made to cancel or postpone an event, information will be posted at www.RRCWB.ca/events and via RRC operated social media as soon as it is available:

    • Should inclement weather occur during an event, please follow the directions of RRC personnel, security and event volunteers.
  • Q: Where would I ask about lost and found items?
    • A: Items found at an event should be turned into Shell Place Guest Services or Box Office. All items will be turned into the main Guest Services area located in Shell Place. Once the event has concluded all items are send to our Lost & Found area located in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, please call 780-791-0070.
  • Q: What should I do if my child goes missing at the stadium?
    • A: All RRC staff are trained in Lost Child procedures. In case of a lost child, please notify the closest staff member or security immediately.
  • Q: Is there parking available?
    • A: Advance purchase reserved parking is available for most events at Shell Place. To avoid disappointment, we encourage the purchase of a parking pass in advance of the event. Parking passes may be purchased at the Shell Place Box Office or online at www.RRCWB.ca/events. Additional parking may be available on a first come-first served basis on arrival at the event. Fees may apply to this parking.
  • Q: What items am I prohibited to bring into the stadiums?
    • A: Items that are deemed to be unsafe or affect guest experience are prohibited from entering Shell Place.Guests found with such items will have the item confiscated and in some cases be subject to removal from the stadium. Prohibited items must be returned to the owner’s vehicle or discarded. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:
      • Pressurized air horns or noisemakers
      • Banners
      • Laser pointers
      • Weapons or fireworks
      • Illegal drugs
      • Alcohol
      • Outside food or beverage
      • Bottles or projectiles
      • Frisbees and/or beach balls
      • Fireworks
      • Firearms
      • Explosives
      • Stun Guns

  • Q: What is the re-entry policy at the stadiums?
    • A: Re-entry is permitted for most Shell Place events. When exiting the stadium, your ticket must be scanned out in order to re-enter. For some events re-entry may not be permitted. There will be signage stating this when you enter.
  • Q: Can I distribute advertising or pamphlets at the stadiums?
    • A: The distribution of promotional items, handbills, flyers, pamphlets, printed materials, as well as the solicitation of signatures is not permitted at Shell Place without written consent from the RRC. Those distributing any of the above without prior approval will be requested to leave Shell Place.
  • Q: Are there smoking areas available?
    • A: In compliance with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo bylaws, Shell Place is a smoke free facility, including electronic cigarettes and vaporizers. Guests wishing to smoke may do so by proceeding to the nearest designated smoking area or entrance and must be at least 10 meters away from any doorway, window, or air intake. For some events re-entry will NOT be permitted in which case designated smoking areas may be available, or smoking will not be permitted for the duration of the event.
  • Q: Can I stand in the seated areas?
    • A: During concerts, guests have the option to sit in their assigned seat or stand in front of it. Guests must be respectful of fans around them when choosing to sit or stand during a performance. Standing in aisles, on stairs or on the main concourse is prohibited.
  • Q: How do I rent a suite for an event or concert?
    • A:Suites may be available for events. Please contact the Shell Place Box Office for more information on suites.
  • Q: What does the ticket holder agreement say
    • A:By using this ticket, the holder agrees to the following terms and conditions: This ticket is a personal, revocable license and the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) may refuse admission or remove any person who has obtained admission by this ticket for any reason at any time by refunding purchase price. A valid ticket must be produced upon entry and upon request any time thereafter. Every person, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter the event. Holder may be refused admission or removed without compensation for possessing alcohol not purchased from the facility vendor, being intoxicated, using objectionable language, or engaging in conduct deemed objectionable, and/or failing to observe all facility, municipal, provincial, and federal regulations, and by-laws.  Purchase and use of all tickets to this event is subject to the condition that the holder will be searched for alcohol, illegal substances or weapons, and admission may be refused to anyone in possession of these items.
    • Holder assumes all risks and dangers incidental to the event for which the ticket is issued, including risk of lost, stolen, or damaged property or personal injury, whether occurring prior to, during or after the event. Holder voluntarily agrees that the RRC, management, facility, league, participants, participating clubs, promoters, artist, and all their respective agents, officers, directors, owners, and employees are expressly released by holder from any claims arising from such causes.
    • Holder will not transmit or aid in transmitting any reproduction, picture, account, or description in any media now or hereafter, existing of all or any part of the event or related events. Holders grants the RRC, promoters, game or artist affiliates and their assigns all common law and statutory rights (and waivers all moral rights) to all photographs or video footage or likeness in any media now or hereafter existing in connection with all or any part of the event or related events, for any purpose whatsoever, including commercial purposes of the RRC, its sponsors, licenses, advertisers, and broadcasters. All sales are final. Dates and show times are subject to change. Lost, stolen, or counterfeit tickets or those offered for resale at any unlawful premium may not be honored. Holders may not enter the event or otherwise use this ticket for advertising, promotion, or other commercial purposes (including contest, sweepstakes, and giveaways) without the written consent of the RRC. The terms and conditions of this ticket will apply even if the holder is removed from the premises, with or without compensation. Breach of any of the above terms and conditions may result in legal action against the holder. Holder acknowledges that damages may not be an adequate remedy for breach of the above terms and conditions and consents to injunctive or other relief which may be sought to enforce such terms and conditions.
  • Q: How can I purchase tickets?
    • A: For all events at Shell Place or MacDonald Island Park, please purchase your tickets at the Shell Place Box Office located at the West Entrance of Shell Place, online at www.macdonaldisland.ca/events or by telephone at 780-793-6969.
  • Q: Are there taxis and public transit available?
    • A: Taxi service and/or public transit is available for most events. Please follow signage and the direction of RRC staff to access these transportation options.
  • Q: Are there areas during events and concerts with restricted access?
    • A: During some events, certain areas will have restricted access. Please adhere to posted signage. Any guests in restricted areas without proper accreditation may be subject to removal from the event.
  • Q: How can I rent one of the stadiums?
    • A: The stadium may be available for rental dependent on available dates. Please contact the Sales and Event team by email click here or 780-792-5156 for more information on stadium rental.
  • Q: Where are the washrooms located?
    • A: Washrooms are located on the main concourse area of the stadium. Additional portable washrooms may be added dependent on the event; please check signage for any additional washroom locations.
